No training is a lot more basic for pet owners than that first important lesson: Do it outside!
Training your pet to eliminate outside the house, not in it, generally gets under way somewhere between six and eight weeks of age. Dogs as young as four weeks have been started on the program, however at that age very few have the muscular control to succeed.

Observe for signs od imminent potty behavior, such as circling or squatting, then pick up the pup, say ‘outside’ and dash outside. The puppy may circle some more, but will usually squat immediately. As it begins, say ‘Go potty’ (or some other specific term) in the clear, firm (but not angry) voice. Wait until it is finished and praise the puppy lavishly.
You won’t usually be able to catch the puppy about to start, but do not get upset or impatient when the puppy eliminates in the house. This takes time for your dog to learn to tell you it’s time to ‘go outside’. It also will take time for the muscles required to control bladder and bowels to mature.
Young puppies need to potty every 2-3 hours, on average. If you haven’t spotted pre-elimination behavior within that time, take the puppy outdoors anyway. Say the command ‘Go potty’ and wait. At first, normally, the puppy will have no clue what you want.
Again, even when outside, it helps to wait and observe for the preferred behavior then say the command. That helps the puppy link the command with the behavior. If the puppy has not eliminated after several minutes and a couple of ‘Go potty’ commands, take it back inside for an hour. Needless to say, in the event you detect the pre-elimination behavior in less time, go outside yet again right away.
Puppies have a astonishing capability to rapidly learn what their ‘alpha’ (the leader of the pack) would like. Like humans, dogs `speak` for many reasons and the majority of these are legitimate. A dog barks to communicate a message, show excitement or draw attention. Nearly every dog owner wants to teach their dog properly. However, nearly an equal number seriously underestimate the amount of time and toil it takes to teach a dog. This results in a common set of missteps that are often made that could, with more or less effort, be wholly avoided.
Dogs should not be considered furry children. Even though the average dog has the psychological development of a two year old human, there are more contrasts than similarities.
